Hello this is bill, I’m the owner of securitysystems.com and I wanted to talk very candidly to anyone considering buying a pen camera and I apologize if my tone strikes you as abrupt or angry. When searching the internet it is now very easy to find many vendors offering this product. This is because the pen camera is now one of the most popular surveillance products on the market today. I know this because I’ve been in this business for over 30 years. Today there are many internet vendors that specialize in selling any product that is enjoying brisk sales. Their business strategy is simple, buy cheap knock-offs made in China and sell them at a very hard to resist low price.  We all know the Chinese are world famous for copying and counterfeiting just about anything that sells.  But Let me be clear that all pen cameras are produced in China including our new “spy pen”. The difference is the true “spy pen” we have made for us is from a legitimate company that we purchase other products from. They have solid relationships with Sony and other companies that supply them with the highest quality components.

I personally have visited the company that supplies our “spy pen”. It is located in my wife’s home town of Shen Yang. The area where the company is located is known as the electronic district and with just a little effort I located and walked into a dozen small shops where I could purchase pen cameras in bulk for as low as three dollars apiece. Let me state here unequivocally these are the pen cameras being sold all over the internet.  We’ve tested nearly a dozen of them that have different exterior shells.  The results are absolutely terrible. They have low resolution, chirping and beeping sounds in the audio and some of our tested pen cameras would not even work out of the box. Of the ones that did work some failed after several videos. In every test after leaving files on the 4GB or 8GB memory these units “jammed” causing these recordings to be lost. The biggest drawback is that They all have flashing lights during the recording which I found to be ridiculous.  Again let me state these are the pen cameras sold all over the internet for $25 to $99. The thieves selling these buy them in bulk. There are no sample videos or a presentation video as found on our site and the reason for this is simple, they NEVER open any of the boxes to test them.  This is why after purchasing some of them we got several that never worked at all. Again their marketing strategy only revolves around selling a popular product at an incredibly low price they know most people can’t resist. They  know that many people won’t bother returning them for a refund and even with returns the fact they sell thousands of units that only cost them 3 bux each allows them a huge profit margin to absorb these refunds. I also believe the feature of the  flashing mode light is purposely never mentioned.

Because of the high failure rate of these products warranties will average around 30 days and never exceed 90 days. A very short warranty period is always indicative of a cheap product. Trying to find their warranty on their site is also usually very difficult as they don’t want it to be visible on the link where you are being “sucked in” with their low price. There is absolutely nobody at these websites with any knowledge of the products they sell and their only response will be to send it back for a refund. You’ll then be back at square one looking for a surveillance camera.

If you purchase one of these pen cameras you’ll be one of thousands and I apologize for the expression… that got sucked in and couldn’t resist their low selling price.  In fairness however I do have to understand that the average person looking to buy a spy pen assumes they are all the same and usually will buy at the lowest price they can find.

Not wanting to sell this stupid pen camera but knowing the huge market demand we had our own “spy pen” manufactured.
